Experimental Results on the Influence of Aerosol Flow Rate on Particle Size Distribution and Number Concentration Measurements of an Electrical Mobility Spectrometer
Abstract
Aerosol flow rate is one of the most important parameter influencing accurate particle size distribution measurement range resolution of an electrical mobility spectrometer (EMS). The aim of this research paper is to present the experimentally studied in the influence of aerosol flow rate on particle size distribution and number concentration measurements of the EMS developed at Chiang Mai University. It was found that at high aerosol flow rate, the particle size distribution measurement range resolution was relatively low with the same inner electrode voltage. Higher aerosol flow rate causes a high number concentration of particles. It was also observed that the breakdown in mobility classification due to strong space-charge effects in the classifier column appeared at electrometer ring number 7 with aerosol flow rate of 3 l/min, the current was found to
exhibit a fluctuation in an uncontrollable manner.
